Good tunes and jump shots

On my drive in to work on my birthday my XM indie station gave me Phoenix-Lasso, Shins-Kissing the Listless, Surfer Blood-Swim, and Shout Out Louds-Walls in succession. I had just driven through Jack in the Box for breakfast on the go. Sausage, egg and cheese croissant sandwich and a large Coke. It was a feel good way to start my 35th year.

So I was thinking earlier today that when I teach my impending daughter how to shoot a jump shot that I need to tell her about pretending to shoot out of a phone booth, you know, to make sure you get enough arc on your shot. Then I thought will she even know what a phone booth is by then? Doubt they will exist 5 or 10 years from now. You know? Random thought.

Tracey and I have a few boxes of personal items stored at her Mom’s house in Cinci. I was going through a large box of pictures a few days ago and found some old journals of mine from when I was 8 and 13 yrs old. At the encouragement of my Dad I’ll share a few entries. I started this particular journal in 1988 and I wrote two entries and then stopped. I picked it back up a year later and here is my first entry including the grammar/spelling errors:

I’m starting my diary up again but a little late like it was April 88 when the last entry was made and now its March 13, 1989 just about a year later. write now Guns and Roses are popular and I secretly bought there tape because my parents don’t want me to buy heavy metal tapes but I liked it so much I probably (next word is unreadable)

And thats where I stopped for that entry. Not sure what else I was going to say. And here is one entry from when I was 8:

Today I moved into a different room. It took me about 5 hours. When dady got home we went to pizza hut. then the abels came over to baby sit us. We watched Back to the Future. It is 11:55am and the abels are still here. Mary is probably still up.

There is no day like today

That thing you were thinking about doing? Do it today. A childhood friend passed away last week. He was 33. It has really stuck with me since I heard last week. Time is going too fast and you just don’t know how much you get. It really does seem like yesterday that Josh and I were trading baseball cards and raiding his kitchen for sugar based items. Now here I am, 34, and he is no longer. Weird and not fair.

Do it.

Back to the present tense

This first post of 2009 is mostly for Heidi cause she’s tired of checking here everyday and there being no update.

Do we even need to blog anymore now that we have twitter? Just a thought.

09 has brought another birthday (3 freakin 4) and another anniversary (11). I’m content in some aspects of my life and very discontent with many others. I choose not to discuss this any further here or anywhere.

We have a new president but the same problems.

I’m disgusted with MLB. I like what Big Papi said today, test everyone 3-4 times a year. I’m mad I’m going to have to hear about Afraud forever now.

Check out these guys for some fun new tunes.

I really can’t stand Rick Reily on ESPN.

I’m going to see Gonzaga play at U. of SD on Feb 28. The game will be on ESPN2.

Bye for awhile probably.

TPOL

I’m listening to The Power of Love by Huey Lewis on repeat today. (Wouldn’t that be a good update to put on my FaceBook page? If I had one?). Maybe I’ll tell why someday.

This will feel good

NYC

We got back from NYC last night. Central Park, the Met, Spamalot, Birdland Jazz club, Times Square, Staten Island Ferry (S. O Liberty view), WTC site, John Lennon’s assassination spot, bagels, pizza, Bronx Lager, scary death defying cab rides, the Porpoise, sub ways, cheap hand bags, Little Italy, Chinatown, Greenwich Village, SOHO, Rockefeller Center, and not enough sleep were all accomplished or visited in 3 1/2 days.

Did you know SF59 had a new CD out? It’s very, very good. And I’m currently addicted to Bears. Give their new disc a shot, really into these Clevelanders a lot.

Obligatory monthly blog

I’ve very excited to be an uncle. My sis had a baby boy over a week ago.
I paid too much money to see Weezer recently.
Next weekend we’re going to NYC for the first time ever. We will see the Porpoise in the flesh.
I spend ten plus hours a day on a computer so personal time to write blog on home computer not high on list.
We recently got Showtime and I have a hard time waiting for Dexter each week, as opposed to waiting for a full season to come out on DVD and watching all of them in a day or two.
I’m getting much pressure to join Facebook but I’m holding out. You don’t really need to have that much info on me do you? What’s Brad W. doing? What has Marshal from BG been up to lately? How about that kid I got in trouble with in second grade? Guess I need to join FB to find out. Email and phone calls are too much effort these days aren’t they?
You look great today, BTW. And who cares what anyone thinks anyway?
Cavs are still weak. Don’t feel the energy to start a new season already. Thank God the RedSox went away.

MMJ

I saw My Morning Jacket last Thursday. One of the best shows I’ve seen, ever. Set list here.

I wanted the Tribe to knock the Black Sox out so bad yesterday.

Five Rifs for the Weekend

Below are five great songs with great guitar rifs to get you through your weekend and beyond. Parents coming next weekend. Mike is engaged. Mare about to have child. Justin is an African. George is a pig. Been almost a year since I heard from Lars. Best time of year right now. Warm, not humid, tourist gone. Going to NYC for the first time ever in Nov. Weird I never got there when I used to live only ten hours away. Happy Birthday Father.
